The Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) commenced in 2005 at Salt River High School. The program has grown from 25 - 30 students to 45 – 50 cadets. Each student must elect to be apart of the JROTC unit. It is with pride that the JROTC instructor in conjunction with the administration of Salt River High School welcomes all young men and women grades 7 thru 12 to the JROTC unit.
The mission of JROTC is to prepare high school students for leadership roles while making them aware of their rights, responsibilities, and privileges as American citizens.
JROTC gives students an opportunity to develop and improve themselves in many ways: it uses military skills to teach self-discipline, confidence, and pride in a job well done and it offers the cadets challenges and opportunities:
Sharpen their communication skills
Promote and encourage citizenship and community services
Develop their leadership potential
Strengthen their self-esteem
Improve their physical fitness
Provide incentives to live drug-free
Promote their graduation from high school, and continuing their education in college.
The cadets have performed in the Salt River Pima Maricopa inauguration ceremonies, Salt River Community parades receiving a 1st place ribbon, POW-WOW’s, Boys and Girls club events, as well as Football, and Basketball games. One cadet was invited to attend the Governor’s inauguration.
JROTC offers opportunities for teamwork, advancement, and self-enrichment.
