In late September, the Arizona Opera came to SRHS to perform the
Mini Elixer of Love for our students. The singers captivated their
audience with this tale of young love and high school heirarchy.
The Mini Elixir of Love was set in an Arizonan high school. Nemorino,
a poor, shy student is in love with Adina, a very popular and preppy
girl. When Nemorino finds out about a “miracle elixir” that will make
women flock to him, he is quickly persuaded to purchase some from
Doc, a clever student determined to make a buck. Things heat up as
the very popular Belcore comes into the picture, pleading with Adina
to accompany him to the homecoming dance. As it played out, the lines
of popularity were discarded as Adina realized her deep affection for
Nemorino. This sweet tale broke the barriers of high school pettiness
and examined the recklessness of bullying.
