Salt River High School and Junior High School's
Fall Music Concert
10/08/2009
By Albert Grijalva, SRHS Music Instructor
The Salt River high school music department continues to develop and grow. In their first concert of the school year the piano students, choirs and bands performed exceptionally well. The music program strives to do performance night each quarter. Allowing the students prepare different types and styles of music throughout the year.
The concert opened with three piano students all of which are taking piano lessons. Nick Jones has been taking private lessons for several years outside of school and performed a small piece by Chopin quite well. The junior and senior choirs showed their language skills by performing several pieces in other foreign languages. And the occasion choreography added to the fun program. Peno Galvan performed two violin solos demonstrating he’s growing musical abilities. Peno’s dedication to music is extraordinary by his additional performances in choir and band. He is by far the most active music student this school has ever had.
The beginning band showed they are learning music quickly by performing several pieces from their book and performing them well. Senior high band continues to grow not only in size but ability. Their performance was a good demonstration of what it so come. Some of the pieces on the program will be performed at the Nov. 11 Veteran’s Day celebration at the community center. Overall everyone was in good musical form and represented the music program well. Thank you, Mr. Wakley, Mr. Kelly and Mr. Grijalva.
