World’s Largest Concert Video Shoot
Submitted by- Suzanne Decker
The World’s Largest Concert is a national music educator (MENC) event that happens every year in March. Eight songs are selected by the MENC for students nationwide to sing at the same time on the same day. The concert this year is scheduled for Friday, March 12th at 4pm. The Salt River Elementary Chorus group will combine with the chorus group of Salt River High School for our annual concert. This will be our third year participating in this special event.
Each year there is a DVD of the eight chosen songs sent out to music educators across the country for them to share with their students. There are clips taken from student groups around the country and they are combined to create the finished project. This year I submitted a proposal to include the students of the SRES Chorus for one of the songs on the DVD. We were accepted, and so we arranged with the tribal AV department to have them come and video our group singing “The Green Anthem” out at the horse corrals at Mesa Drive and Indian Bend Road. “The Green Anthem” is a song about our need to preserve and care for the earth. Students dressed in traditional clothing and looked fantastic against our lovely desert backdrop. We did our video shoot on December 15th, and the day was beautiful. The folks over at the horse corral were great and set up some hay bales so that the community’s wild horses might come over to be a part of our video shoot. Their plan was successful, so not only were the kids featured, but also some of our four footed friends!
