Salt River's Career Center offers a variety of assistance to the Community. Housed in the Career Center are the Apprenticeship Training Program, Workforce Investment Act Program and the GED Program.
Apprenticeship Training Program
The program offers basic training to individuals interested in becoming Journeyman Certified in the trades of Computer, Carpentry and Heavy Equipment. Individuals begin approximately six months of Related Training at the Career Center in a classroom/lab setting.
Requirements for entrance:
Proof Tribal Enrollment
Social Security card
Medical Physical
High School Diploma or GED Certificate
Motor Vehicle Record (MVR), Heavy Equipment only
Arizona Driver's License, Heavy Equipment only
Upon completion of the classroom/lab period the students are then required to seek employment to begin their On-the-job training hours as follows:
Carpentry -- 7,000 hours (approx. 3 ½ years)
Computer -- 2,000 hours (approx. 1 year)
Heavy Equipment -- 5,000 hours (approx. 2 ½ years)
Once OJT hours are completed the apprentice receives a Journeyman Certificate from the Bureau of Apprenticeship Training and the State of Arizona Department of Economic Security.

Computer Monday thru Friday, 7 am - 4 pm
Construction Monday thru Friday, 7 am - 4 pm (Winter)
Monday thru Friday, 5 am - 2 pm, (Summer)

³ Opportunity to learn a new skill while working.
³ Effective job searching tool to help an applicant get by the “experience” barrier.
Classroom Training
³ Program may pay for tuition, books and required supplies.
³ Limited dollar amount of gas vouchers provided for traveling more than fifteen miles one way to school.
³ Only training facilities that on the Approved Training Provider list are acceptable.
Job Search Assistance
³ Job search and job referral assistance.
³ Provide labor market information.
³ Limited dollar amount of gas vouchers for job search more than fifteen miles one way from home.
³ Limited dollar amount of gas vouchers available for a new job more than fifteen miles one way from home prior to receiving first paycheck.
Relocation Reimbursement
³ Limited dollar amount reimbursement if you move more than fifty miles from your home.

You May Be Eligible
¡ If you are 18 years or older and meet the eligibility requirements listed below:
¡ Meet citizenship requirements
¡ Provide a valid drivers license
¡ Provide a valid Social Security Card
¡ Register with Selective Service, if applicable
and
¡ Meet the definition and provide documentation for one of the following categories:
Layoff…an individual who has been laid off from employment through no fault of his/her own, and is eligible for or has exhausted unemployment compensation.
Plant Closure/Mass Layoff…an individual who has been laid off, or has received a notice of layoff from employment as a result of a mass layoff or permanent closure.
Self-employed…a self-employed individual who is unemployed due to general economic conditions or due to natural disaster.
Displaced Homemaker…an individual, who has been dependent on the income of another family member, but is no longer supported by that income; and is unemployed or underemployed.

The GED Program offers adult Community members an opportunity to prepare for the GED exam with the instruction and guidance of experienced adult educators. The program also provides computer-aided instruction by the use of the latest software.
