Here’s a roundup of what’s happening this week + information about end-of-year celebrations, promotions, and graduation. As always, please refer to our main calendar page (bookmark this!) for more information about these and other events/announcements.

THIS WEEK

  • The Scholastic Book Fair is back at Salt River Elementary School now through Friday, April 28. The book fair will be open each day during lunch recess from 10:45 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Click here to visit the Book Fair online and buy 24/7. Families can also go cashless and sign their student up for an eWallet. All SRES Book Fair purchases benefit our school and put books into the hands of our students. Thank you for your support!

  • ECEC families in the Eagle, Cougar & Wolf, and Cottontail classrooms are invited to a cap decorating event on Tuesday, April 25, from 4-6 p.m. in their child’s classroom. Materials will be provided, but families may bring their own decorations, as well. Invite attached.
  • Tuesday, April 25, is the next Nurturing Parenting Group meeting, which is open to all SRPMIC teen parents. Participants will receive free diapers and books for their child in a safe and supportive atmosphere. Light refreshments will be provided. The group meets Tuesdays and Thursdays now through May 4. On Tuesdays, the group meets in person from 4-6:30 p.m. On Thursdays, the group meets virtually. Learn more and sign up today by calling Margaret Lehn at 480-765-0617 or email [email protected].
  • Wednesday, April 26, is Early Release at SRES and ALA (the ECEC no longer participates in Early Release).
  • The FACE Family Circle event will be held Thursday, April 27, from 1-2:30 p.m. at SRES. New and current FACE families are invited to join in to learn about nutrition and making healthy food choices. There will be lots of yummy/healthy food to try, fun activities, and raffle giveaways!   • ECEC families in the Turtle, Butterfly & Bear, and Quail classrooms are invited to a cap decorating event on Thursday, April 27, from 4-6 p.m. in their child’s classroom. Materials will be provided, but families may bring their own decorations, as well. Invite attached.
  • The Salt River Higher Education program invites all SRPMIC-enrolled GED graduates and their families to attend a FAFSA Night event at the GED Office, which is located in the Salt River Community Building (1880 N. Longmore Rd.). The event is Thursday, April 27, from 5:30-7 p.m. Please RSVP by emailing [email protected].
  • The next Salt River Higher Education funding deadline is approaching! April 30 is the deadline for students wanting to attend vocational schools with start dates in May, June, and July, as well as students attending the summer semester at colleges/universities. NOTE: Applications are accepted the next business day when deadlines fall on a weekend. For this deadline, that means Higher Education must have your application in by 5 p.m. on Monday, May 1. Email [email protected] with any questions.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

  • There are several summer programming opportunities at Salt River Schools that run May 30-June 23. Please share with eligible students/families. More information and applications can be found at:
    • Camp STREAM for SRES-enrolled students entering grades 1-6 next school year.
    • First Things First Pre-K Summer Program for SRES-enrolled students who will attend kindergarten next school year.
    • ALA Summer School for past and current ALA students, as well as Mesa Public School students verified by SCR staff.
  • Applications are being accepted now for the Salt River Jr. ACE program, a collaboration between Scottsdale Community College and Salt River Schools that engages students with college-related activities during a free, two-week summer session at SCC. Jr. ACE is completely free and runs June 5-15. The program is for SRPMIC students currently in grades 5-8 (from any school).

  • SRPMIC high school students (from any school) ages 15-19 are encouraged to submit applications now through May 5 for the Career Exploration Camp at Scottsdale Community College. The camp runs June 5-9 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at SCC. Participants will work with experts in the fields of film, IT, healthcare, and recreation management/exercise science. Students with 100% camp attendance will be eligible for a $500 participation award! For more information, contact Seneca Peters at 480-362-6642.
  • A reminder from the SRPMIC Community Development Department that the intersection at Alma School and Osborn roads will be closed to traffic for several weeks beginning May 1 and folks should find a new route to avoid delays. Click here to view the notice. 
  • The ECEC campus will be closed May 8-12 to allow all ECEC staff to attend the National Head Start Conference in Phoenix and participate in professional development activities at the ECEC. This means the ECEC building will be closed to students and families during this time. All ECEC families are asked to sign off that they are aware of the closure, which can be done either in person at the ECEC front office or online.
