There is a special announcement from the Education Board today: Dr. Melody Herne has been named the official Superintendent/Director of Education. Click here to read an official announcement letter from the Education Board. Please join me in congratulating Dr. Herne!

There are a few events happening next week. As always, please refer to our main calendar page (bookmark this!) for more information about these and other events/announcements. Please also share our public events with your networks!

  • Monday, Jan. 30: Higher Education applications due for students wanting to attend a vocational schools with start dates of February, March, and April.
  • Tuesday, Jan. 31: ECEC Big Wheel Day for ECEC students and families (click here to view the flyer).
  • Tuesday, Jan. 31: Please join ENLC staff and students for O’odham and Piipaash Storytelling Night! A light dinner will be served while supplies last. This event is open to the whole Community.

Announcements

  •  February 1 is World Read Aloud Day and the official launch of the second annual Salt River Family Read Aloud Challenge, which runs from Wednesday, February 1, through Wednesday, May 3. Families are challenged to read 25 books—there are lots of chances to win fabulous prizes! Each family will receive a FREE Read-Aloud Family Journal to record the books and stories they read. This is open to ALL SRPMIC families. Click here to learn more.
  • Nike N7 Sports (in partnership with the Notah Begay III Foundation, First Tee-Phoenix, and US Sports Camps) will provide sport and educational opportunities for youth ages 7-17 from SRPMIC, GRIC and Ak-Chin Indian Communities. All genders, all abilities, and experience levels will be provided the opportunity to attend camps with top national/local coaches (two of the camps will be held at the Accelerated Learning Academy!).
