Dr. Herne will say farewell to Salt River Schools in June 2024
Dr. Melody Herne recently announced her decision to not seek renewal of her contract as the Superintendent/Director of Education at Salt River Schools. The Education Board accepted her decision, and said Dr. Herne will continue her important work and help with the leadership transition through June 2024.
“I have been blessed to work for Salt River Schools,” said Dr. Herne, who has served as the data specialist since February 2018. She was announced as the Acting Superintendent in August 2022, and was named the Superintendent/Director of Education in January 2023.
Dr. Herne said she is proud of the work accomplished by Salt River Schools over the last few years, including the expansion project undertaken by the Early Childhood Education Center, the curriculum adoption initiatives for Salt River Elementary School and the Accelerated Learning Academy, and all staff receiving professional development in a variety of areas, including trauma-informed education.
“The work we’ve done the last few years at Salt River Schools has been so tremendous, and I am excited for what’s to come,” said Dr. Herne, who added that the latest achievement by the ALA—the school recently earned a “B” letter grade from the Arizona Department of Education—makes her proud to lead such an amazing team.
The Education Board said the plan moving forward is to continue to collaborate with Dr. Herne to build upon the good work being accomplished. The Education Board said it will announce its plans regarding the hire of a new Superintendent/Director of Education at a future board meeting.
“There will be opportunity for staff, families, and the Community to participate in the future of Salt River Schools, and I encourage everyone to take our
Cognia survey, participate in our activities, and join me at the next Superintendent Community Forum in February 2024,” said Dr. Herne. “Your voice and opinion are so important as we look to the future of Salt River Schools.”
