THIS WEEK
- Tuesday, March 21, is the ECEC’s Talk About Tuesdays family meeting from 7:30-9:30 a.m. in the Gathering Place. This is for ECEC families only. This month’s meeting will focus on “Spring Cleaning 101 & Organization.” Participants will chat about basic organizational skills and many helpful cleaning tips. There will also be door prizes to win! Call/text 480-241-1854 to register.
- Tuesday, March 21, is the first meeting of the new Nurturing Parenting Group, which is open to all SRPMIC teen parents. Participants will receive free diapers and books for their child in a safe and supportive atmosphere. Light refreshments will be provided. The group meets Tuesdays and Thursdays from March 21 to May 4. On Tuesdays, the group will meet in-person from 4-6:30 p.m. On Thursdays, the group will meet virtually. - NOTICE TO ECEC STAFF/FAMILIES: In order to meet the requirement for Early Head Start contact hours for the 2022-2023 program year, the last Early Release the ECEC will participate in will be April 12. The ECEC will not participate in Early Release on April 26, May 10, or any Early Release dates during the summer.
- Wednesday, March 22, will be parent-teacher conferences at SRES from 1-7 p.m. Call SRES at 480-362-2400 for more information.
- Thursday, March 23, is the return of the annual SRPMIC Wellness Event in the ALA gymnasium from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Join SRPMIC WIC and the Salt River Schools Food Services team for Sap ep Ka:k, the "Good Food" wellness event. This will be an evening of nutrition education and celebration of Indigenous foods! - March 27: Join the Jr. ACE Advisory Committee and share your ideas for how to make the program even better for our students. Anyone can join the committee and attend this event, which will be held Monday, March 27, at 5 p.m. in the Salt River Schools Education Board Room. Dinner will be served. Questions? - March 28: ECEC families are invited to attend the “Get Ready for Kindergarten” event. There are two sessions to choose from: 8:30-9:30 a.m. or 4:30-5:30 p.m. Starting kindergarten is an exciting time for children and families. During this workshop, families will explore what it means to be “ready” for kindergarten. Experiential activities, videos, and discussions give families the tools they need to support foundational language skills, mathematical thinking, social emotional learning, and healthy routines so families and children are confident and ready for their new school adventure. - March 30: Vaila Night with the Education Native Language Culture team! This event is open to the whole Community. Join us in the ALA cafeteria from 5:30-7 p.m. for dancing, contests, prizes, and NACHOS! Contact [email protected] with any questions.

Thursday, April 6, is the return of the annual Education Fair in the ALA gymnasium from 4-7 p.m. The theme is “Exercising Minds, Bodies, and Spirits,” and we’re really excited about the 60+ exhibitors that will be doing fun activities with our participants. Join us for a BBQ dinner, awesome prizes, special guests, and more!

- The Curriculum & Instruction team is seeking input regarding the elementary science core text adoption process. Learn more and take a survey here. Your opinion counts!
- The Early Childhood Education Center is accepting applications for Early Head Start (prenatal-3 years), Head Start (3-5 years), and their Home Based program (prenatal-3 years). The ECEC promotes early learning, development, health, wellness, and family partnership. Applications are available at the ECEC campus or at ECEC.SaltRiverSchools.org. - The ECEC campus will be closed May 8-12 to allow all ECEC staff to attend the National Head Start Conference in Phoenix and participate in professional development activities at the ECEC. This means the ECEC building will be closed to students and families during this time. All ECEC families are asked to sign off that they are aware of the closure, which can be done either in person at the ECEC front office or online. - We're past the midway point of the Salt River Family Read Aloud Challenge. Participating families are asked to share when they’ve finished 12 books for another round of resources and goodies! Learn more and join the challenge today! This is open to ALL SRPMIC families.
- The Office of Indian Education is holding an artist competition for American Indian, Alaska Native, and Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander students in early childhood through high school. Deadline to submit is March 29. Click here to learn more.
