Here’s a roundup of what’s happening this week + information about end-of-year celebrations, promotions, and graduation. As always, please refer to our main calendar page (bookmark this!) for more information about these and other events/announcements. Some of the monthly newsletters are also available.

THIS WEEK

  • Applications are due TODAY for the Salt River Jr. ACE program, a collaboration between Scottsdale Community College and Salt River Schools that engages students with college-related activities during a free, two-week summer session at SCC. Jr. ACE is completely free and runs June 5-15. The program is for SRPMIC students currently in grades 5-8 (from any school). Click here for more information and to download the application.
  • Tuesday, May 2, is the next Nurturing Parenting Group meeting, which is open to all SRPMIC teen parents. Participants will receive free diapers and books for their child in a safe and supportive atmosphere. Light refreshments will be provided. The group meets Tuesdays and Thursdays now through May 4. On Tuesdays, the group meets in person from 4-6:30 p.m. On Thursdays, the group meets virtually. Learn more and sign up today by calling Margaret Lehn at 480-765-0617 or email [email protected].
  • Tuesday, May 2, is the ECEC Policy Council meeting, following the Education Board work session. Click here to learn more.
  • Wednesday, May 3, is the next car seat check at the ECEC. These take place every first and third Wednesday of the month (March-May) from 7-9 a.m. in the ECEC drop-off lane. No appointment needed! Contact Melinda Hansen at 480-362-2206 for more information.
  • May the Fourth Be With You: Thursday, May 4, is College Wear Day (and Star Wars Day)! College Wear Day occurs every First Thursday of the month for all staff and students at Salt River Schools. This initiative began several years ago as a fun way to promote higher education. It's so fun to see students rocking t-shirts, hats, socks, pins, ties, and whatever else shows off that college spirit.
  • Thursday, March 4: The ECEC invites all adult male figures involved in an ECEC student's life to Burritos for Dad, a meet-and-greet event with the Life Enhancement and Resource Network Fatherhood Program staff. Stop by for breakfast, stay for the conversation, and discover how your involvement and participation will benefit your child's education experience. Questions? Call or text 480-241-1854.
  • On Friday, May 5, join Higher Education staff, as well as featured guest speakers within and around the Community for the Higher Education First Friday Chat! These events are the first Friday of the month from 10 a.m. to noon via MS Teams and are open to all and feature important information about college and career-related topics, including applications, funding, scholarships, counseling, and so much more!

  • Join the ECEC at Family Fiesta Night on Friday, May 5, from 2-5 p.m. in the Gathering Place. ECEC families are invited to have their children complete health screenings and enjoy some fun activities and tasty, festive treats! Salt River Schools and our Community partners will also share information and resources. Questions? Call 480-362-2200.

ON THE HORIZON

  • Educator Appreciation Week at Salt River Schools will take place May 8-12. We would love to share student and family well-wishes with staff, including teachers, site leaders, program staff, security, Food Services, Transportation, janitorial, and everyone who makes Salt River Schools a special place for youth and families, whether they attend our schools or not. Please send an email to [email protected] and we will share your messages of support and gratitude.
  • The ECEC campus will be closed May 8-12 to allow all ECEC staff to attend the National Head Start Conference in Phoenix and participate in professional development activities at the ECEC. This means the ECEC building will be closed to students and families during this time. All ECEC families are asked to sign off that they are aware of the closure, which can be done either in person at the ECEC front office or online. Families are also responsible for finding alternative care May 8-12. Click here to learn more.
